Back Bay Pied-à-Terre
Imported European
A portrait of the project
Back Bay Pied-à-Terre sits in Boston, MA — a imported european kitchen built around the architecture, the light, and the way this family actually lives. A 950 sq ft Back Bay residence used as a city pied-à-terre for serious cooks.
The challenge
A 950 sq ft Back Bay residence used as a city pied-à-terre for serious cooks. Storage was at a premium and the kitchen had to entertain six without feeling cramped.
The solution
A fully imported German bulthaup b3 system in matte alpine white with floor-to-ceiling tall units, a hidden coffee column, and a marble peninsula doubling as a bar.

Architect's approach
How we designed it.
We acted as the client's architectural representative to the European factory — translating the home's structural conditions into millimetric drawings, coordinating freight and field measurement, and supervising installation against tolerances tighter than American framing typically allows. The factory builds the kitchen; we build the conditions for it to land perfectly.

About the style
Imported Kitchens.
Imported European systems — bulthaup, Poliform, Boffi, SieMatic — are engineered the way furniture used to be: tolerances measured in tenths of a millimeter, hardware that closes the same way in year one and year twenty. Owning one is closer to commissioning a piece than buying a kitchen.
